Hi ya’ll! Hope everyone had a good week. I can’t believe it’s already June. Time flies when you’re way too busy (as a platform team engineer 😌).
Conference Update
This past week, I went to my first in person conference in 2+ years. It was fun to see industry friends in person again but also was also entirely draining. My social battery after 2 years cannot handle 2 full days of socializing and networking.
Of course San Francisco has recently been in another COVID peak. Several speakers and attendees had to cancel last minute because they got positive for COVID, but no tests were required to attend. Mask adherence was almost 100% at the indoor conference but time will tell if we all get COVID anyway.
I’m a huge fan of remote work, but not so much of virtual conferences. I just think we need to be honest that conferences are more engaging and fun (and exhausting) in person. It’s still a complicated time to plan in person events, but they definitely have value and I think we will all have to be understanding of last minute cancellations and travel changes. Having options for remote speakers and streaming or recording talks for remote attendees will be a way to be more inclusive and flexible.

This is the sign I’ve been waiting for. I will never be closing another tab.
Putting this in my next ERD.
The latest terrible new trend is tech companies rescinding offers (including interns). If your company is hiring or has last min internship roles, it would be a good time to post about them.
That’s it folks! I’ll see ya next week!
