Hi ya’ll!
Finally ran my marathon today (with my mom!) and the first 3/4 were going great. At mile 19 I started to really hit “the wall” and the last 7 miles were absolutely terrible. But we finished at 4:05 and I am so sore afterwards I think I might be retiring from marathons at this point.
Bad Leaders
Obviously the huge buzz this week was a certain purchase of a certain company. In totally unrelated thoughts:
So what makes a bad leader in my mind? Just a few thoughts.
Their teams don't feel valued or appreciated
They don't listen to experts within their teams
They take credit for others' successes but put failures on singular people
They can't communicate a vision or inspire
They don't reward fairly
They don't treat their employees like full humans
They hand down deadlines they expect to be met without question or input
They don't invest in under-resourced teams or tools that would make teams' lives easier
They expect compliance and create environments of fear
They can't take criticism or adjust
And lastly, they might single out employees to criticize to their mob of millions of followers.
ICMYI
So if I make my coffee at home how long will it take me to buy a social media company?
I had to google “former” and “latter” to make sure I was setting this up correctly, but yes I said what I said.
Yes, I think that is what they think. And any mention of “left” or “right” in comments or code will be completely misinterpreted. I can’t wait.
That’s it for this week folks! Have a great week and see ya next Sunday.
Also, good managers never herald praise on strong individual contributors because we all know they could only do the great things they do because those around them provided the safe space for them to work.
